Our story, our sound, our sisterhood.

Over 50 Years of friendly voices coming together in Malpas, Cheshire — this is the story of One Achord.

What we're about

The values behind our harmony.

We're a choir built on friendship first, music second — although we take our singing seriously too. Here's what matters most to us.

01

Enthusiasm over experience

Previous choir experience and the ability to sight read music are a bonus, but not a requirement. What we really look for is enthusiasm and a willingness to give it a go.

02

Singing in tune, together

We ask members to be able to sing in tune and be prepared to work together with the group — that team spirit is what makes our sound come alive.

03

Friendship and fun

Women of all ages come together each week to laugh, chat and sing. Many of our closest friendships have been made standing shoulder to shoulder in rehearsal.

04

Proud of our roots

We're proud of our 50+ year history in Malpas, and proud of how far we've come — from a WI singing group to One Achord, still going strong today.

Our story

From Malpas Ladies Choir to One Achord.

There has been a ladies choir in Malpas for over 50 Years. It all began in 1970, started by the WI, and even though the Malpas WI itself came to an end in 1995, the choir simply carried on — going from strength to strength and modernising as Malpas Ladies Choir.

In May 2019, we updated our name to One Achord — a fresh identity for a modern choir that's always been about the same thing: friendly voices, singing together. We've since welcomed a new Musical Director, Lorna Kettle, who brings fresh energy and new songs to our weekly rehearsals.

Lorna Kettle

Lorna Kettle joined One Achord as our Musical Director several years ago, bringing fresh ideas and a steady stream of new songs into our weekly practices. Lorna leads our rehearsals with warmth and patience, making sure every voice — new or experienced — feels confident and part of the sound we make together.

Under Lorna's direction we're continually growing our repertoire, from timeless classics to feel-good favourites, always with an ear for what our members enjoy singing most.

Who can join

All abilities, all ages, all welcome.

We're a group of women of all ages who enjoy singing a wide variety of music. Membership is open to anyone, subject to vacancies — and whilst previous choir experience and the ability to sight read music would be great, they're by no means essential.

What matters most is enthusiasm, the ability to sing in tune, and being prepared to work together. If that sounds like you, we'd love for you to come and give us a try.

If you're looking to join a local choir, get in touch — we're always happy to hear from you. And if you're after a choir to sing at your event, we're happy to discuss a booking too.
